How a real-time satellite wallpaper works on Mac
LiveAtlas retrieves available satellite imagery for your selected region, composes it as a desktop image, and refreshes the wallpaper automatically. In ordinary search language this is often called a real time satellite wallpaper for Mac; technically, the view is near real-time because timing depends on each public source and its update cadence.
LiveAtlas is an independent macOS client, not an official satellite data provider or weather-warning service.
What 4K output changes
When 4K output is enabled, LiveAtlas prepares the wallpaper on a 3840 × 2160 canvas before applying it to macOS. That gives a consistent UHD output size for a 16:9 4K monitor or a desk setup that benefits from a larger source image.
The output dimensions do not create detail that is absent from the original satellite image. LiveAtlas uses the best available source for the selected region, then fits it to the chosen wallpaper canvas.
