Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the LiveAtlas macOS application and describes how information may be processed when you install, launch, and use the App.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the LiveAtlas macOS application (the "App") and describes how information may be processed when you install, launch, and use the App.

2. Information We May Process

The App may process the following categories of information:

  • Location information: after you grant permission, used only to retrieve weather information for your current location, display latitude and longitude coordinates, and automatically select appropriate regional satellite imagery wallpapers based on your geographic area.
  • Weather query parameters: including coordinates, region data, and request time, used to access weather services.
  • Satellite imagery request parameters: including region, timestamp, and resolution parameters, used to download public satellite imagery.
  • Local cached files: including thumbnails, high-resolution imagery, settings files, and log files.
  • User feedback information: when you voluntarily submit feedback, this may include your email address, feedback content, and any log files you choose to attach.
  • Trial and subscription status information: when you start or use a trial, the App may generate a pseudonymous virtual UUID on your device and send that UUID together with trial status, subscription status, remaining trial days, App version, system version, request time, IP address, and user agent information to the developer's server.

3. Purposes of Processing

The App processes the information above only for the following purposes:

  • Displaying and updating satellite wallpaper imagery
  • Obtaining and overlaying weather information
  • Displaying geographic coordinates when enabled
  • Automatically matching satellite imagery sources to your region
  • Saving your local settings and preferences
  • Providing diagnostic logging capabilities
  • Responding to user feedback that you voluntarily submit
  • Managing trial eligibility and subscription-related status
  • Preventing misuse of the trial system and improving the trial policy

4. Permissions

The App may request the following system permissions:

  • Location permission: used to obtain weather data based on your current location, display latitude and longitude, and determine the appropriate regional satellite imagery.
  • Network access: used for weather queries, satellite imagery downloads, and feedback delivery.

If you deny a permission, the related features may not function properly, but other features that do not depend on that permission may remain available.

5. Local Storage

The App primarily stores the following content on your device:

  • Settings files
  • Thumbnail cache
  • High-resolution wallpaper cache
  • Runtime logs

These cache and settings data are stored locally in the App's local directory by default. They are not automatically uploaded to any developer-owned server except for information expressly described in this Privacy Policy, such as feedback submissions and trial or subscription status information.

6. Third-Party Services

The App may access the following third-party services or public data sources:

  • Open-Meteo
  • Apple WeatherKit
  • NOAA / weather.gov
  • Himawari
  • FY-4B
  • GK-2A
  • Meteosat
  • GOES

You understand and agree that these third-party services may process request data according to their own privacy policies, terms of service, and technical practices.

7. User Feedback and Logs

When you voluntarily send feedback, the App may send:

  • The email address you provide
  • The feedback content you enter
  • Any log file you choose to attach

Logs may contain timestamps, coordinates, error messages, file paths, or network request states for troubleshooting purposes.

If you use the private feedback form on the LiveAtlas website, the developer may process the message content, optional contact email, optional app details, request time, IP address, and browser user agent for support, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, and response purposes. Website feedback messages are stored privately and are not published on the website.

8. Trial and Subscription Status Data

For trial users, LiveAtlas may generate a pseudonymous virtual UUID to help identify the same App installation without collecting your real name, email address, Apple ID, or payment information. This UUID is used together with trial and subscription status data to determine trial eligibility, understand aggregate trial usage, prevent abuse, and improve the fairness and reliability of the trial policy.

The UUID is not intended to directly identify you as a real-world person. It is stored separately from any feedback email address you may choose to provide, and it is used only for App operation, trial management, analytics related to trial policy, troubleshooting, and abuse prevention.

9. Information We Do Not Actively Collect

Unless you explicitly trigger a related feature, the App does not proactively collect or upload:

  • Contacts
  • Photo library content
  • Microphone audio
  • Camera input
  • Keyboard input unrelated to the App's functionality

10. Your Controls

You may control data processing in the following ways:

  • Disable location permission in System Settings
  • Turn off weather overlay or automatic refresh in the App
  • Clear local cache and logs
  • Submit feedback without attaching logs
  • Contact the developer to ask questions about trial UUID records

11. Policy Updates

If this Privacy Policy is updated, the revised version will be provided together with a newer version of the App. Continued use of the App means you accept the updated policy.
