Data Sources

Public satellite and weather imagery for LiveAtlas.

LiveAtlas uses public meteorological and satellite imagery sources to create live desktop wallpapers. Source availability, image resolution, and refresh frequency can vary by provider and region. Satellite imagery remains subject to the terms and availability of the original data providers.

What LiveAtlas Uses

LiveAtlas may access public satellite imagery and weather services to download cloud maps, generate regional wallpaper images, and display optional weather overlays. These sources help the app create a desktop view that reflects real atmospheric conditions.

Data Ownership and Distribution

LiveAtlas is a client application that helps users access and display publicly available satellite cloud imagery. The underlying satellite imagery and weather data are provided by their respective satellite operators, meteorological agencies, data portals, or service providers. LiveAtlas does not claim ownership of that source data, does not operate its own satellite data collection or hosting infrastructure, and does not provide a standalone data feed, bulk download service, or redistributed satellite imagery product.

Any image adaptation performed by LiveAtlas, such as fitting imagery to a desktop wallpaper or combining it with optional local display context, is intended only for the user's local visualization within the App. It should not be understood as an official product of the original data provider or as a separate satellite imagery service. Provider terms, licenses, attribution requirements, access rules, and availability remain governed by each original source.

Examples of Sources

  • Open-Meteo
  • Apple WeatherKit
  • NOAA / weather.gov
  • Himawari
  • FY-4B
  • GK-2A
  • Meteosat
  • GOES
  • Arktika-M

Refresh Frequency

Public satellite imagery is not updated every second. Depending on the provider and region, imagery may refresh every 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or at another interval determined by the source.

Independent Application

LiveAtlas is an independent macOS application. It is not an official NASA, NOAA, Apple, WeatherKit, Himawari, FY-4B, GK-2A, Meteosat, GOES, or Arktika-M application. References to data providers describe possible data access and source compatibility only.
